FMM OFFICE POOL EPISODE II: THE BRACKET STRIKES BACK

Okay! Let me explain about what happened yesterday.

When astrofisica was having trouble getting the office pool spreadsheet to output people's scores correctly I stepped in and wrote a function in Mathematica which took the winning bracket, a list of everyone's brackets, a list of everyone's usernames and then (1) calculated the score for each bracket by comparing it to the winning bracket, creating a new list of just scores, and then (2) collated this list with the list of usernames to create a table of results. I just want to point out that this function worked perfectly! At all stages! However, three things went wrong which skewed the results.

1. I omitted one name from the list of usernames to be collated with the scores so the two lists were in a slightly different order, which means some people's scores got swapped.
2. For some reason I included Liz Lemon in the Elite Eight in the winning bracket, meaning everyone who predicted her for the Elite Eight had their score inflated by 30.
3. I accidentally used two variable names for Olivia Dunham so some people had their scores deflated because the algorithm didn't know to count her.

So, yeah. It was a series of human errors (or — if you prefer — an elaborate and nearly flawless plot to overinflate typicrobots' score) and I'm really sorry about that. In my totally weak defence there were over 350 entries and I did all this while studying for an exam (in Mathematica of all things). I got lazy about double-checking the input lists by hand because I'd written a check into the file which I thought would have picked up a discrepancy but it didn't. Anyway, long story short: I once had a job in data entry which lasted quite literally a month. But after I took the post down last night I went through and straight-up copied the first list into the second so they're both in the right order, made sure all the variable names were consistent (looks like it was only the two Olivias I fucked up on) and triple-checked the winning bracket to make sure it was all right. Everyone who highlighted a discrepancy between the score they should have received and the score they actually received now has the correct score assigned to them; I also checked a few random users to make sure they were right — and I have every confidence that the following table is now correct! Oh and the final mean score is 773.674. And if you check your score by hand and it's wrong I will literally cry.
